- Alias = an email address which uses the same domain name as the email service itself. Think of it as an internal forward, for example you may have a mailbox of info@yourdomain.com and you might want to have an alias of information@yourdomain.com delivered to the info mailbox
- Forward = an external email address to which you may want messages for one of your mailboxes delivered to, for example, info@yourdomain.com to also go to yourname@hotmail.co.uk
- IMAP accounts permanently leaves email on the server so that you can see the same from any PC where you have the same account configured or when using webmail access
- POP3 accounts will typically download unread email to the PC on which the account is configured, at which point they are removed from the email server
